This workshop, being produced in collaboration with the BRIDGE SF conference, a week-long celebration of civic innovation hosted by the City and County of San Francisco, the University of California, Berkeley, and City Innovate Foundation. This event will examine participatory methodologies for creating civic apps. All those interested in design thinking and civic tech should join us.

Caravan Studios will demonstrate their 5-step participatory, community-centric design process. This process, based on human-centered design and collaborative practices, works with community members to generate opportunities for technology interventions on their most pressing issues, design responses to those opportunities, select the most impactful of those responses, build the technology, and use it throughout the community to make change.

In this session, you will emerge with:

- a framework for a participatory design methodology
- an understanding of how participatory design impacts usage and results
- an understanding of how to more broadly engage a community in discussions about relevant local issues
