Yo Yoshida is the CEO and Founder of Appallicious, a Civic Startup based in San Francisco that creates products to help government better serve its citizens. He is a seasoned innovator, entrepreneur, industry writer, and start-up adviser with a passion for government and technology.Yo has been working with the White House, FEMA, nongovernmental organizations, universities, foundations, first responders and local governments for 2 and a half years on a project to leverage technology and data to help communities respond to and recover from disasters. What started as the first full-life cycle Disaster Assistance and Assessment Dashboard (DAAD) has been transformed through extensive iterative stakeholder development and design sessions into the Community Resilience Platform (CRP). The CRP is the first daily use, customizable, white label preparedness, collaboration, planning, response, and recovery platform developed for communities to build their own regional and local resilience platforms.Yo was honored to present his work at the White House last year for the White House Innovation for Disaster Response and Recovery Initiative. In 2013, Yo received the national Exemplary Leadership Award from the Center for Digital Government for his work with open data. Appallicious created San Francisco’s Rec & Park app, featured by the U.S. Department of Energy, and named one of the “7 open data apps every city should have” by Mashable. The civic startup developed the transformative Neighborhood Score app, which was launched by San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee at the U.S. Conference of Mayors. Appallicious was also awarded by the Silicon Valley Innovation Summit in 2012 and 2013 as one of the top 100 Tech Startups to Watch.
